Exchange programs for social workers and youth leaders
CIF originated from the American Cleveland International Program (CIP), an exchange program originally set up for German youth workers.
Just after the Second World War there were mutual misunderstandings on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean. It was envisaged that an exchange of working experiences could bridge the gap between the cultures.
The program had a great impact, was soon expanded to other cities in the United States and participants from other countries were invited to participate.
Former CIP-participants founded the CIF and initiated exchange programs in countries outside the USA.
